As the story makes its way to Broadway, see the celebs who lent their vocals to the 1997 animated favorite


Meg Ryan — Anastasia

Meg Ryan brought the title character to the big screen, voicing royal offspring Anastasia. Ryan took on the voice role in the midst of her rom-com heyday, adding the animated flick to her résumé between appearances in Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail.



John Cusack — Dimitri

After earning credits for Sixteen Candles, Say Anything..., and Con Air, John Cusack lent his voice to Anastasia as the con man Dimitri. While his on-screen work has been plentiful, Cusack earned his only other voice credit in the years since in 2008, when he voiced the title character in Igor.



Kelsey Grammer — Vladimir

Kelsey Grammer became Vladimir for 1997's Anastasia, voicing the sidekick to Cusack's Dimitri. The actor joined the animated flick in the midst of his run as Dr. Frasier Crane on Frasier. He wrapped the 11-year gig in 2004 and picked up additional voice credits for The Simpsons, Teacher's Pet, and Toy Story 2.



Christopher Lloyd — Rasputin

Christopher Lloyd brought the villainous Rasputin to the big screen in Anastasia. The Back to the Future actor voiced the sorcerer after earning a previous vocal credit for DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp and going on to lend his voice to Hey Arnold! The Movie, The Tale of Despereaux, Foodfight!, and Cyberchase.



Hank Azaria — Bartok

Hank Azaria underwent a bit of a transformation for Anastasia, voicing the albino rat Bartok, who reports to Rasputin. The project was an early one for Azaria, who started his on-screen career in the late '80s. He picked up other voice credits for Spider-Man, The Simpsons Movie, Hop, Happy Feet 2, Family Guy, and The Simpsons.




Bernadette Peters — Sophie

Bernadette Peters brought her award-winning acting chops to Anastasia as Sophie, a relative and lady-in-waiting to Dowager Empress Marie Feodorovna. Peters took on the role after previously lending her voice to Animaniacs, and has spent the years since focusing on her stage and on-screen work.




Kirsten Dunst — Young Anastasia

Fifteen years old at the time of Anastasia's release, a teenage Kirsten Dunst voiced a young version of the character Anastasia. The actress had already earned credits for Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles, Little Women, and Jumanji, and dedicated her post-Anastasia career to on-screen projects, including a recent run in FX's Fargo.




Angela Lansburg — The Dowager Empress Marie

Angela Lansburg lent her star power to Anastasia, voicing the Dowager Empress Marie. The famed star took on the role of the royal woman after picking up voice work in The Last Unicorn and Beauty and the Beast.



Andrea Martin — Phlegmenkoff

Andrea Martin found her spot in Anastasia as Phlegmenkoff, the owner of the orphanage. The My Big Fat Greek Wedding actress' other vocal credits include Pinky, Elmyra & the Brain, Superman, Recess: School's Out, Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, Rugrats, The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, and Kim Possible.
