2324Xclusive Update: MTV BASE & GOOGLE AFRICA PARTNER FOR @MTVBaseWest

NEW GOOGLE SEARCH VOTING PLATFORM TO ENHANCE VOTING EXPERIENCE FOR MUSIC FANS

Africa’s leading music and youth brand MTV Base has signed a major partnership deal with Google for the MTV Africa Music Awards Johannesburg 2016 - the continent’s premiere celebration of contemporary music and achievement.

For the first time ever, the Google partnership makes it possible for fans and viewers to vote for their favourite songs and acts directly from the Google website or app on Android or iOS, making it quicker and easier than ever for viewers to vote.

“Our viewers are online, on mobile, and engaged, and we believe this new voting option will provide a very accessible way for them to vote for their favourite MAMA nominees,” said Alex Okosi, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa. “We are excited about the partnership.”

During the voting window, fans will be able to vote for their favourite artists in categories including Best Group, Best Breakthrough Act, Song of the Year and Best International Act by simply searching “MTV MAMA” on Google, with each Google account allowed 5 votes per category per day.  Fans will also still be able to vote on the channel’s website www.mtvbase.com.

First staged in 2008, the MTV Africa Music Awards has recognised top music talent, achievers and personalities from across Africa including 2Face Idibia, Big Nuz, Cassper Nyovest, Davido, D’Banj, Flavour, and many more. The 2016 ceremony will feature stunning performances from African and international artists including Alikiba, Cassper Nyovest, Nasty C, Ycee, Yemi Alade and Babes Woduma, alongsidethe show’s signature cross-genre and cross-border collaborations.

“Music is a big part of culture and lifestyle in Africa, and this is quite evident across the continent online. We are excited that through this free voting platform, more fans of the MAMA will be able to vote for their favourite artists and also connect with their passion for music” said Doha Marzouk, Head of Sub-Saharan Africa Marketing, Google.  She added that “the Google Search voting functionality will kick off on 21 September 2016 following the reveal of this year’s MAMA nominees, and will run until 19 October 2016”.

The 2016 awards, which take place at the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg on Saturday 22 October 2016, are also being supported by Joburg Tourism in partnership with Absolut, and in association with MTN and DStv.
