The verdict given by a jury in Los Angeles on March 10th, 2015, might change the whole music industry as we know it. Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke have been ordered to $7.3 million to the family of Marvin Gaye for copyright infringement.
After two days, the verdict was reached and a jury comprised of five women and three men found out that "Blurred Lines", one of the most successful songs of the past years, which has made more than $16 million in profit, copied Marvin Gaye's 1977 song "Got To Give It Up". Gaye's family sued Williams, Thicke, and T.I., whom all contested the infringement.
The jury ordered ecided to order Thicke and Williams to pay $4 million in copyright damages plus profits attributable to infringement, which for Thicke was $1.8 million and for Williams was $1.6 million for a total of $7.4 million.
