Remember when celebrities were pouring buckets of ice water over their heads in the name of ALS? Well now, Samuel L. Jackson wants the same attention paid to civil rights. In a post on his Facebook page (Dec. 13), the actor called out his fellow stars to start another viral craze, this time in the form of song.
“All you celebrities out there who poured ice water on your head, he
said. “Here’s a chance to do something else. I challenge all of you to
sing the ‘We ain’t gonna stop ‘’til people are free’ song.”
He then shared the song, which includes the “I Can’t Breathe” mantra
that has been employed for nationwide protests against police brutality:
I can hear my neighbor cryin’ ‘I can’t breathe’ / Now I’m in the
struggle and I can’t leave. / Callin’ out the violence of the racist
police. / We ain’t gonna stop, ‘til people are free. / We ain’t gonna
stop, ‘til people are free.
Stars who participated in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge include:
Rihanna, Eminem, G-Unit, Kevin Hart, LeBron James, Oprah, Tyler Perry,
Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, Justin Timberlake, Kim Kardashian and many
others. Jackson’s jingle could make a pretty big statement if all these
stars accepted his challenge.
