Cool C – most known for his late 1980s diss record against Marley Marl, Kool G Rap and Big Daddy Kane – is scheduled to be executed on Jan. 8 following a 1996 bank robbery. Convicted of first-degree murder in the death of Philadelphia police officer Lauretha Vaird, the 44-year-old, whose real name is Christopher Roney, was previously granted a stay of execution in 2006.
Maintaining his innocence to date, Roney’s lawyers have attempted to appeal his conviction. Eyewitness accounts and statements, however, have led to upholding. His fellow C.E.B. rap crew member, Steady B, was also involved in the robbery and is currently serving a life sentence.
Pennsylvania governor Tom Corbett signed Roney's death warrant on Friday (Nov. 21), according to Philly.com.
