In a week that saw album releases from Joell Ortiz, Lecrae, and more, Kendrick Lamar’s feature on Chris Brown’s latest album again rose to the #1 spot on HipHop Top 10. A DX Daily breaking down all the recent news of Iggy Azalea’s alleged sex tape as well as Childish Gambino’s comments that he’s better than Drake climbed to the second spot. And the long-awaited video to Jennifer Lopez’s Iggy Azalea featuring “Booty (Remix)” rounds out the Top 3.
Elsewhere on the list Lupe Fiasco released a new single, Rick Ross returned with the first offering from his next album, and Migos and T.I. team up for “Trouble.”
Chris Brown Enlists Kendrick Lamar For “Autumn Leaves”
Making a repeat appearance at #1 on this week's list, “Autumn Leaves” appears on Chris Brown’s recently released X. According to Billboard,
Brown is “on the verge of earning his sixth consecutive top 10 album on
the Billboard 200 chart,” a number that represents all of his albums.
Released on September 16 (Tuesday), Billboard adds that the album may debut at No. 2 with as many as 140,000 copies sold in its first week on the shelves.
“Autumn Leaves” itself is a slow-tempo track featuring a
Chris Brown verse and hook before Kendrick Lamar takes over. “It seems
that all the autumn leaves are falling/I feel like you’re the only
reason for it/All the things you do, all the things you, do all the
things you do,” Brown sings on the chorus.
“When you’re outlandish and you lose manners, to God you
shall consult/When the bright cameras are still cramming in your face
and it provoke/You to act mannish, just stay planted, because you
reaping what you sow,” Kendrick raps.
Iggy Azalea’s Sex Tape & Childish Gambino Vs. Drake
With nearly daily updates over the past week, rumors of an
Iggy Azalea sex tape have continued to make headlines. Azalea’s former
boyfriend, a Houston rapper by the name of Jefe Wine, claims that the
tape was recorded with the Australian artist’s knowledge and after her
18th birthday. Most recently, Azalea filed a preemptive lawsuit against
Jefe Wine, caliming that he downloaded content from her computer in 2009
while living together in Atlanta, Georgia. Azalea’s suit also accuses
Wine of forging a contract that purportedly granted him exclusive rights
to her work.
Meanwhile, in an interview with The Grammy Museum’s
Spotlight series, rapper Childish Gambino claimed he’s “working harder”
than Drake before saying he’s better than the Toronto emcee outright.
“I don’t want people to think that I hate Drake,” Gambino
said in response to a question posed by a fan in the audience. “I don’t
hate Drake at all. I really like Drake, if not for no other reason than
he makes me better. He really does. I had to fight that all the time. I
knew when I was doing Childish Gambino from the beginning, like,
‘They’re not gonna let me do this. They already have a rapper, singer,
actor guy who’s Black.’ That’s really what it was. ‘If he was White, it
would be different.’ They’d be like, ‘They’re not the same.’ It’s very
specific. I don’t dislike Drake. I think he’s a really good writer and
rapper. Right now I definitely feel I’m better than him, only because
I’m working harder than him right now. If he came in and was like,
‘Let’s rap.’ I’d be like, ‘Oh, I’m gonna kill you.’”
Jennifer Lopez & Iggy Azalea Release “Booty (Remix)” Video
After weeks of teaser photos, Jennifer Lopez released her
“Booty (Remix)” video this week with a prominent feature from guest
rapper Iggy Azalea. Presumably aimed at the same audience as Nicki
Minaj’s “Anaconda,” the Hype Williams directed “Booty (Remix)” video
features J. Lo and Azalea gyrating through the song. In less than two
days the video has racked up more than 18 million views.
