The
Champions League group stage draw was today after the tournament's
playoff stage wrapped up yesterday. This is what we have to look forward
to.
Plenty
of hot takes will be coming in over the next few minutes/hours/days, so
we won't point out too much right now, but a couple things are of note.
First, this draw might feel a little familiar; Barcelona, for example,
are matched with Paris Saint-Germain, whom they met just two years ago
in the Champions League quarterfinals. Arsenal and Dortmund were drawn
together last year, as were Bayern and Manchester City, who will meet in
Group E.
Few of these groups look particularly fun to
be in, but Chelsea landed a pretty easy slate in Group G, and Atlético
and Juventus should be safe in Group A. City might struggle, because
along with drawing Bayern, they got Serie A runners-up Roma, and have to
travel to Russia, but the English champions should be alright.
Liverpool drew Swiss kings Basel, and Real Madrid, who won this whole
thing just a few months ago.
